TV Review–The Good Wife (2009-)

Created by Michelle King and Robert King

Starring Julianna Margulies, Josh Charles, Chris Noth, Alan Cumming

45 min episodes

I’m gonna die from excitement because The Good Wife is now available on HuluPlus AND Amazon Prime. All four seasons! I’m not sure how to express how good this show is. I think the word I’m looking for is alluring.

When you watch a show about politicians and lawyers you’d expect to feel nothing but antipathy, but The Good Wife is so slick, so cool, that you want to be a part of that life after every show. The dialogue is sharp and the acting is near perfect.

Julianna Margulies is amazing in the lead role, as the lawyer/mother/wife. She brings to life the power and the heart that women possess, and which no man could ever fully achieve. The supporting cast is great too, with standout acting from Alan Cumming as campaign manager Eli Gold , and Archie Panjabi as the hard-nosed investigator with a murky past. The actors are fortunate to have some of the best TV writing in recent years.

The Good Wife is the result of the talent at Scott Free Productions, led by brothers Ridley and the late Tony Scott. It showcases all the qualities that their brilliant careers have yielded. The show is never flashy, never gimmicky, but always refreshing, and always a thrill.
