Stream Guide–007 Ranking (#6-10)

Dr. No (1962)

The Agent
Sean Connery

The Villain
Joseph Wiseman (Dr. No)

The Girls
Sylvia Trench (Eunice Gayson)
Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress)

The Stand-Out Scene
Ursula Andress rising from the sea in her skimpy white bikini, sweetly singing “Underneath the Mango Tree”.

The Best Line
Bond: “That’s a Smith & Wesson, and you’ve had your six.”

Die Another Day (2002)

The Agent
Peirce Brosnan

The Villain
Gustav Graves played by Toby Stephens

The Girls
Miranda Frost played by Rosamund Pike

Jinx played by Halle Berry

The Stand-out Scene
Sometimes it’s all about the girls, and in Die Another Day, Halle Berry gives an eye-opening homage to the Dr. No scene described above, as she emerges from the sea in a knockout bikini.

The Best Line
James Bond movies are known for their suggestive dialogue and double entendres, but the writers have outdone themselves with this exchange.

Miranda Frost: Mr. Bond. And Miss…?
Jinx: Swift, “Space and Technology” magazine.
Miranda Frost: Really? I take it Mr. Bond’s been explaining his Big Bang theory.
Jinx: Oh yeah, I think I got the thrust of it.

Oooh. Saucy!

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969)

The Agent
George Lazenby

The Villain
Ernst Stavro Blofeld played by Telly Savalas

The Girls
Tracy Draco played by Diana Rigg
Ruby Bartlett played by Angela Scoular

The Stand-out Scene
In the first of many snow chase scenes of the Bond franchise, 007 escapes from Blofeld’s base to the explosive musical theme of John Barry.

The Best Line
Bond [to camera]: This never happened to the other fellow.

Moonraker (1979)

The Agent
Roger Moore

The Villain
Hugo Drax played by Michael Lonsdale

The Girls
Holly Goodhead played by Lois Chiles
Corinne Dufour played by Corinne Clery

The Stand-out Scene
While on a bird hunt with Drax, Bond fires into the air. “You missed, Mr. Bond,” says Drax as he smiles…until his hidden sniper falls dead from a tree.

The Best Line
Hugo Drax is as smooth with his words as Bond is with is gun. So instead of simply saying, “I’ve been expecting you Mr. Bond, “ he poetically declares, “James Bond. You appear with the tedious inevitability of an unloved season.”

Thunderball (1965)

The Agent
Sean Connery

The Villain
Emilio Largo played by Adolfo Celi

The Girls
Domino Derval played by Claudine Auger
Patricia Fearing played by Molly Peters
Paula Caplan played by Martine Beswick
Fiona Volpe played by Luciana Paluzzi

The Stand-out Scene
At the climax of the film, there is an epic battle scene between Largo’s men and a collective force of British and American agents. Oh, yeah, and it’s underwater. I’d bet the bulk of this project’s budget went into filming this scene, but it was worth it.

The Best Line
Bond: My dear girl, don’t flatter yourself. What I did this evening was for Queen and country. You don’t think it gave me any pleasure, do you?
